As so many gadgets are nowadays specially designed, it’s not completely over the top to find these days coloring books for adults.

Researchers and art therapists have been praising coloring for more than 10 years now and it was only around 2012 when the first successful coloring books got published.

Coloring has become an alternative to meditation and its benefits in calming and de-stressing are mentioned by Yoga specialists and therapists throughout the world.

Part of art therapy, coloring for adults is great for exploring feelings, developing social skills and improving reality orientation. The coloring reduces anxiety, increases self-esteem and has benefits in relieving emotional conflicts just as well.

On the other hand, using adult coloring books doesn’t equal an art therapy session and it has its limitations.

The main gain through adult coloring is the reducing of anxiety, as coloring switches off your brain from other thoughts, helping to raise free-floating anxiety.

In case you’re dealing with major mental or emotional issues, adult coloring is not enough for you.

But, if you’re simply looking for a hobby to relieve stress, the adult coloring books are a great option.

Skip the crayons and go directly to colored pencils and try as many colors, types and brands as you like (see our article on choosing your pencils). Fear not of mixing, combining the colors and the textures and let your thoughts fly away!
